Airport CEO Mehdorn wants to partially start operations in BER airport

The supervisory board of the Berlin airport BER has approved CEO Hartmut Mehdorn to obtain for the authorities approval to begin with the test operation of the north wing of Berlin’s new airport. The north wing, which was actually designed as a waiting room, would have to be transformed into a „real“ terminal for the go live. Critical voices question the cost-benefit-ratio. Hartmut Mehdorn plans to start with ten flights per day. The costs for the terminal transformation are estimated at 6.5 million euros. Another 1,5 millions would be necessary to remove the works when the pre test is finished.
